Nature presents amazing scenes. Some are totally unique and others are reminiscent of familiar things. The strong vertical and horizontal elements of this scene generated images that altered my perception and offered me a glimpse into how the natural world lends itself easily to abstraction.
This cluster includes the following pieces:
From Here to There
This stylized autumn scene was inspired by a group of shade-casting trees dividing two sunlit fields. The patterns made by light and leaves showed strong vertical and horizontal lines, so the brushstrokes are all vertical or horizontal. The path is how the animals travel from here to there.
30″ x 40″ x 3″ Oil Painting
This “basket weave” pattern is inspired by a landscape painting that uses only vertical and horizontal brush strokes. The pattern made by light and leaves in that scene, the visual interdependence of intertwining trunk, limbs, and leaves, brought to mind the warp and weft of a woven basket.
